What's Happening Now-Animal Identification
Sept/Oct 2012 Breaks
The latest USDA proposal for a new NAIS system includes independent programs to be built by states in determining intrastate disease control of livestock. The Wyoming Livestock Board is currently working towards a state program that will likely focus on livestock diseases particular to the state.
The future program for regulation of interstate shipments of livestock are in the process of design by an advisory board selected by the USDA. The potential for a resurrection of the original Animal Identification protocols and burdensome requirements may be a possibility.
