About Community Organizing at Powder River Basin Resource Council:
Community organizers work to maximize the power and participation of Wyomingites concerned about issues in their communities. They facilitate face-to-face conversations, guide strategic thinking, and provide training to help community members identify issues, develop solutions, and take action together. About Powder River Basin Resource Council:
Powder River Basin Resource Council was founded by ranchers and townspeople concerned about the impacts of coal strip mining on landscapes, communities, and freshwater aquifers. For over 50 years, we have advocated for the responsible development of Wyoming’s energy resources. Using community organizing, connections with scientific, policy, and legal experts, and coalitions with other organizations, we wage effective campaigns to protect Wyoming’s air, land, and water and to promote sustainable agricultural practices and policies in the state.
As a grassroots issue-based organization – Powder River is a member-driven nonprofit that works from the ground up to address community concerns through collective action and democratic participation. We work to empower local member groups and to monitor and inform public policy affecting the state’s land, air, water, energy resources, agriculture, and community well-being. As such, Organizers are expected to reflect these priorities in their work.
