In May, Powder River joined with Western Colorado Alliance (WCA) and Western Organization of Resource Councils (WORC) to advocate for stronger federal onshore oil and gas bonding requirements. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is considering a rule that would update onshore oil and gas lease sales. Although the text of the rule is not available yet, it is expected to include updated requirements for financial assurances, or bonding, for oil and gas leases on federal land. This update is decades in the making, as federal bonding requirements have not been updated in over 60 years and have failed to keep pace with technological advances in the oil and gas industry.
